In the late 18th century, a small study was done
on adults that listen to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart music and it shows that they
pass better in intelligence test. Do you
ever feel like you are not as intelligent as before, that you find it difficult
to remember things easily? Here are some Nigerian foods that increases
intelligence quotient just like Mozart music.
Intelligence is categorised into fluid intelligence and
crystallised intelligence.
Information that are stored up and how-to do something are
related to crystallized intelligence. This increases with age.
Fluid intelligence reaches its peak when reaching adulthood
and declines with time. Some particular food
prevents this declination and makes you look smart.

Fish oil- fish contains vital fatty acids and lipid which
belong to the Omega family. As they say, “fish is brain food”, fish oil helps
in developing brain cells and maintenance of its cell membrane fluidity. It
facilitates neuron’s activity. Fish rich in oil includes salmon, sardine, and
mackerel. These fish contain omega 3. The phosphorus and iodine content of fish
are both important for a good brain work.
Raw egg- raw eggs are readily available and cheap. It
contains high level of protein and quality fat. It helps in producing important
neurotransmitters. There is a different result when you consume cooked egg.
Cooked egg shows little effect. Raw eggs improve your health generally and
increases sound mind. Drink raw egg may seem difficult at the initial stage but
you will get used to it with time. There are different ways of taking raw egg.
You can mix it with some raw milk and take. You can also mix it with fresh non
–flavoured natural fruit juice.
Dairy Product- cheese, milk and yogurt are some example of
dairy food available in Nigeria. Fatty
dairy foods are important to our brain as they increase logical thinking
ability of the brain. In a research carried out in America and Australia,
volunteers who take dairy product regularly and daily performed better in
memory and logical thinking test than those who neglect dairy product. Lack of
omega fats can result in disease like multiple sclerosis. Protein, vitamin, calcium and magnesium
content of milk and cheese stimulate brain activity.
Liver- animal’s liver like chicken and beef liver contains
iron that is important in getting oxygen to the brain. The brain requires about
25% of oxygen consume by the body. Liver is a good source of vitamin b. vitamin
B1, B6, B12,and B12 helps improve cognitive function of the brain and thus
increase intelligence quotient
Raw vegetables- organic raw vegetable contains antioxidant
and phytochemicals that helps to keep the mind healthy and sharp. All leafy
vegetables contain folic acid that helps in development of nervous tissue and
blood cell renewal. A pound of green
vegetable for every 50 pounds body weight is the recommend daily. Spinach
contains vitamin C that helps increase memory, recall and attention work of the
brain.
Lean red meat- iron content of lean red helps to perform
better in mental task as it help transport oxygen to the brain. It also contains
zinc that helps increase the cognitive function of the brain. Iron and zinc are
involved in brain cell mitosis.
Whole grain- oats, wheat and millet food are example of
whole grain food. Whole grain meal helps
to reduce oxidative stress and cardiovascular disease like hypertension which
may result in risk of brain disease and malfunction.
Ginseng- this root is a powerful agent that helps improve
memory, mental stimulation and brain function generally. It protects the brain
from toxins.
Avocado- avocado contains mono-saturated fat that helps
increase blood flow to the brain and as well lowers blood pressure.
Vitamin B foods that are rich in vitamin B like banana,
beans, and turkey help improve mood. It prevents mental declination and thus
increases the intelligence quotient.
