What are the Food that Delays Menopause

Food high in fatty fish and legumes is associated with a delayed menopause. One theory states that the antioxidant properties contained in both fatty fish and legumes which play an important role in reducing ovarian follicular atresia or worsening may contribute to the delay in menopause onset. It would be interesting to consider whether a diet associated with insulin resistance could lead to ovarian dysfunction.

Researchers at the University of Leeds in England after studying the relationship between diet and menopause, a published a new study in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health found that consuming certain food groups could affect the age at which menopause begins.

Higher daily intake of both vitamin B6 and zinc was also linked to delayed menopause

Data suggests that a high intake of healthy foods, especially fatty fish and fresh legumes such as peas and green beans is associated with a later onset of menopause. In fact, those who ate a significant amount of oily fish had a delay of almost three years.

On the other hand, those who consume significant amounts of refined white noodles and rice tend to have an earlier start, with menopause beginning about 1 1/2 years earlier than most.

The Health Benefits and Risks of Delayed Menopause

Janet Cade, who is a professor of nutrition epidemiology and public health at the School of Food Science and Nutrition in Leeds, believes that understanding how food affects the onset of menopause is extremely valuable. Different women have a family history of complications related to menopause.

Many studies have examined the relationship between age and menopause onset in which genetic, behavioral and environmental factors are the main causes. This is the first time that the relationship between diet and the age of natural menopause has been studied.

The results are important as both the early and late onset of menopause are associated with certain risks.
